Shivamogga: A complete lockdown in Shivamogga city will continue till Sunday, said District in-charge minister KS Eshwarappa.
He was speaking at a meeting of representatives of various organizations in the district Commissioners office on Monday, May 17.
He said that after imposing a complete lockdown the Covid spread rate is under control. So the lockdown will be continued for a week. But this time the APMC market will be open until 7 am and the wholesale market will be allowed to operate till 9 am.
He added that the government has given permission for essential goods and industries.
At the meeting, experts discussed the precautionary measures to be taken following the Covid third wave in October. The Minister instructed the District Commissioner to recruit local personnel to look after the needs of the Covid victims. Dr. Srikanth Hegde, a member of the District Covid Management Expert Committee, said the only way to prevent the third wave is to intensify the vaccine. The third wave is likely to affect the taluk and rural areas where medical systems need to be improved.
“Doctors, nurses, staff should be recruited. He said the vaccine work in rural areas should be intensified,” he suggested.
Another member, Dhananjaya Sarji, suggested that the Covid guidelines should be tightened in rural areas.
District Commissioner KB Shivakumar, MP BY Raghavendra, MLA Araga Jyanedra, Kumar Bangarappa, MLC Prasanna Kumar, Rudregowda, SP Lakshmi Prasad, and other officials were present.
