Shivamogga: As per the decisions taken in the review meeting chaired by state rural development and panchayat raj minister K S Eshwarappa, the concerned departments conducted a raid on illegal sand mining areas and have continued their raids.

On Monday, January 27, the Doddapete Police raided 13 lorries (six-wheeler) transporting sand illegally, even after the permit had expired. The police successfully seized these vehicles. The raid was conducted by previously assigned police teams headed by their respective PSIs. The raids have been organized under the supervision and direction of the Superintendent of Police.

Police raided these vehicles at the New Mandali Bypass Road, as they had not paid royalty fees to the government and were functioning with a lapsed permit.

Later, the seized lorries were handed over to the Department of Mines and Geology along with a report.

Meanwhile, stringent action has been taken against the lorry owners and drivers.
