
Shivakumar Emphasizes Manmohan Singh’s Legacy as Bengaluru City University Renamed
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar praised the contributions of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the renaming of Bengaluru City University in his honor. Speaking at the announcement, Shivakumar highlighted Dr. Singh’s monumental role in transforming rural employment in India and his legacy in eradicating hunger across the nation.
“Manmohan Singh is a leader whose contributions to India are unparalleled,” Shivakumar stated. “His efforts, following the legacies of leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi, have made India a nation free from hunger. Today, thanks to him, millions in rural India have employment opportunities.” He emphasized that it was essential to remember such a great leader, not just in the context of Bengaluru City University, but by renaming other institutions in his honor.
The renaming of Bengaluru City University to Dr. Manmohan Singh Bengaluru City University was announced during the Karnataka Budget session. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated that this change was part of efforts to make the university a model institution, with Government Arts College and Government R.C. College being made constituent colleges of the university.
Additionally, Siddaramaiah outlined plans for the establishment of a constituent college of Visvesvaraya Technological University at Chintamani Taluk in Chikkaballapur district, with an investment of Rs 150 crore. He also proposed starting the Prof. Nanjundaswamy Research Chair at Mysuru University.
