Showers on the Horizon: Coastal Karnataka on Yellow Alert
Mangaluru: As pre-monsoon conditions gather pace, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed coastal Karnataka under a yellow alert for April 18, 20, and 21. The advisory points to the likelihood of moderate rainfall coupled with thunderstorms during this window.
The forecast specifically includes Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, where isolated thunderstorm activity is expected to increase over the coming days. Residents are urged to remain cautious and stay updated with local weather alerts.
On Thursday, weather conditions across Mangaluru and nearby regions varied, with a blend of sunshine and thick clouds throughout the day. While darker skies loomed over parts of the city, rainfall remained absent.
In contrast, brief and light showers made their presence felt in select areas of Chikkamagaluru and Kodagu districts during the afternoon. These sporadic drizzles brought temporary relief but did not escalate to heavier downpours.
Temperature-wise, Mangaluru experienced a fairly warm day. The maximum temperature touched 33°C, while the early morning minimum settled at 26.1°C. Despite the rise in humidity, the coastal city saw no significant shift in weather patterns on Thursday.
As the weekend nears, the IMD suggests keeping umbrellas handy and preparing for quick changes in the weather. The alert serves as a reminder for citizens, especially in vulnerable areas, to prioritize safety during sudden weather fluctuations.
