Bengaluru: A vacation bench of the High Court has refused to stay the release of multilingual film ‘Killing Veerappan’ which is scheduled to hit the screens on January 1, 2016.
Director Ram Gopal Varma, who made ‘Killing Veerappan’, entered into an agreement with Veerappan’s wife Muthulakshmi in 2008 and made the film which is due to release on New Year’s day.

A Raja, a film producer from Tamil Nadu, had approached the High Court seeking an injunction banning the film’s release as he contended that he had entered into an agreement with Veerappan’s wife Muthulakshmi in 2006, which gave him exclusive rights of any film or television serial made on the life of the forest brigand.

Raja said he couldn’t make any film during the three-year period of the agreement but had agreed to pay a sum of Rs five lakh every three years over a period of 15 years for the rights.

Justice B Veerappa of the High Court, too, refused to stay the film’s release, saying the petitioner had approached the court late.
