Kannada horror film “Mummy” has come to the rescue of Sandalwood. Nearly a month after the currency crisis hit business, the film is running to packed houses, becoming the first Kannada film to beat the ongoing currency crisis. The film which was made on a small budget, has become a big hit at the box office.
The film has Priyanka Upendra in the lead and no male star. Despite that, the film managed to bag 161 theatres for release across Karnataka. After “Mukunda Murari” and “Santhu Straight Forward” in November, no other Kannada film had a housefull show till “Mummy” came along.
The film’s first week gross is expected to come around Rs 4 crores, which is a very good amount for a small budgeted film. It has surprised the trade pundits in Gandhinagar. With number of shows expected to pick up from second week, we can expect more collections.
