Bangles: Versatality is its middle name

When it comes to fashion, bangles undoubtedly have a global appeal. In india, bangles are not only a fashion statement but traditionally worn by the girls and women with pan-religious allure. Men too wear bangles mostly as religious identity.

In India, events such as engagement, marriages, and baby showers among others are incomplete without these beautiful accessory. From gold, platinum, glass, to plastic, wide variety of materials are used to make this accessory, which is every woman’s particular favourite. Name any occasion or mood, Indian market has bangles made for the same.

The youth of India have an important role in making bangles trendy. From gold coloured, oxidised to brass bangles, the teenage girls pair it up with bold or ethnic attire. Metallic toned bangles are their favourite with casual look. If there are bangles made from materials such as silk threads, wood, then the credit goes to the teen divas.

Now coming to religious, and traditional significance of the bangles, bangles are considered auspicious in Hindu religion. Coming to Hindu traditions, women are adorned with green glass bangles during baby shower as it is considered auspicious colour that signifies new beginning. There is a scientific reason behind gifting bangles during baby shower. They are gifted to women because the tinkling bangles provide acoustic stimuli for the baby as foetus crave acoustic stimuli. This helps in development of hearing ability in the baby. Several studies have shown that cheerful or calming music reduces a pregnancy stress and depression too, thus reducing delivery of pre-term or under weight baby.

Similarly, colours of the bangles too denote different characters, or stimulates different vibes. For example, red represents sensuality, purity, enthusiasm, fertility, and strength, while blue denotes intelligence. White colour is a representation of harbinger of change, black signifies strength, purple freedom, yellow happiness, and saffron success. Also it is believed that wearing gold bangles brings good luck and progress.

All in all, in any religion, the bride’s look in India and many other South Asian and Western countries too is incomplete without bangles. Be it gold, metallic, glass, wood or silk thread, each kind of bangles are wonderful pieces of art. You should just need a reason to adorn them or do you?
