Indian contribution in the field of education is immense. Aryabhata’s scientific explaination on eclipses, Brahmagupta also known as Indian Einstein’s speculations on the Theory of Gravity and Relativity, Sushruta’s work on Plastic Surgery and Ophthalmology are few among the historic ones.
As the mobile phone gets updated with each passing day, the other systems too change. If we update we go well among the mass and if we don’t, we get outdated. So, is the state of Indian education. Education in india is a Fundamental Right guaranteed under Article 21. Right to Education Act (RTE ) – 2009 also establishes free and compulsory education. Ironically, existing types in Indian education is vast. There exists ICSC, CBSE, State board, open board and government aided state syllabus institutes. All these system vary in their quality of education and opportunity. The condition of the state-run government institutes in India has been seeing deterioration.
The impact of these varied types is seen when students step out of the school for their higher studies. A student with CBSE and ICSE background easily crack competitive examination while the students with state board background fail to compete, which reflects the quality of education. India today, has been ranked 92nd in Education among 125 countries. Indian Education system has been accused as the ‘stagnant water’ for its unseen evolution. The lack of skills over knowledge, effectiveness over efficiency, teamwork over individual excellence, employability over bookish knowledge might be some of the other reasons behind the lower ranking.
With New Education Policy, the Government should also ensure equality in education. Primary education must be made free to every child, either learning in government, aided or private should not be a matter of significance. Bringing in such system will not only eradicate the commercialisation of education but also improvise the government institutes which are in a downgraded state. Students at the young age will not learn to differentiate between the financial stability of one’s parents with that of neighbours. Rich and Poor, every child shall be guaranteed a qualitative and indiscriminative education. With this laureate, Devanuru Mahadeva’s words
