How to recover from jaundice with right diet

Known as jaundice, or yellow disease, this disease refers to a problem with the liver or bile ducts.

Jaundice is a common disease that occurs in newborns to people of all ages. In this condition, as red blood cells break down, your body builds new cells to replace them, while the old ones are processed by the liver. If the liver cannot handle the breaking down of blood cells, bilirubin builds up in the body and your skin may look yellow, says Dr. Anuradha from Kakunje Ayurvedic Wellness Clinic, Moodabidri.

Main reasons

Jaundice causes the skin, mucus, membranes and the white part of the eyes to turn yellow. Jaundice is usually a sign of a problem with the liver, gallbladder or pancreas. Jaundice occurs when too much bilirubin is stored in the body. It can also occur due to
• Virus (Hepatitis C, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis D,
• Use of certain medications
• Congenital complications
• Chronic liver disease
• Blood disorder
• Pregnancy jaundice

Some food to prevent jaundice

Food acts as the primary energy of the body. It should contain carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and water.

• Water: Helps in flushing out toxins from the body. It is very important to drink an adequate amount of water. If you want, you can add some lemon juice, mint or cucumber along with water and drink it.

• Fruits: It is better to consume whole fruit as compared to fruit juices. Mainly grapes, berries, citrus fruits, watermelon, papaya, avocado, etc.

• Vegetables: Vegetables contain minerals such as Vitamin C E, Carotene, Zinc, Phosphorus, etc. Mainly potatoes, ash gourd, snake gourd, ridge gourd, bottle gourd, tomatoes, carrots, garlic, ginger, and green leafy vegetables are good

• Cereals: Cereals help in recovering from jaundice mainly ragi, wheat, millet, oats, rice, and buckwheats are good.
