Do you know, poor eating habits will have a negative impact not only on your mental and physical health but also on your fertility?

Nisha Pansare, a Fertility Consultant of Nova IVF Fertility, Pune says “If you wish to start a family, you’ll need to adopt a healthy lifestyle and make certain changes in diet. You can also improve your fertility and ovulation function by doing so.”

Doctors believe that there is a link between nutrition and fertility. Rigorous diet, excess weight, smoking, and alcohol consumption can all affect fertility and cause hormonal imbalances. Thus adopting a healthy diet becomes crucial if you’re planning a pregnancy and want to improve your fertility.

Experts suggest maintaining a healthy weight, neither overweight nor underweight is good for the baby.

Doctors have opined not to try any fad diets, which can deplete your body of the nutrients it needs during pregnancy. One must be aware of what to eat and what to delete. Anaemia can be caused by a lack of iron. Iron levels in the blood can assist red blood cells in delivering oxygen to the foetus. Reduce your odds of ovulatory infertility by eating vegetables like spinach, pumpkin, tomatoes, and beetroot. Protein-rich foods such as tofu, paneer, and lentils should be consumed. Omega-3 fatty acids can aid in the improvement of egg quality.  High caffeine intake can lead to infertility or a longer time to conceive so it is better to avoid it. Folic acid is important because it reduces the risk of neural tube abnormalities in babies. Green leafy vegetables, orange juice, beans, peas, lentils, and even nuts are good sources of it, such foods should be increased in the diet.

Sugary beverages such as sodas and energy drinks might cause decreased fertility. They should not be consumed on a regular basis. You will take longer to become pregnant if you eat processed and canned foods. Say no to pizza, pasta, cake, pastries, chips, or desserts. Say a big no to drinking and smoking as well. Reduce the amount of trans fat in your diet and increase the amount of monounsaturated fat as recommended by fertility specialists.

Dear women, as all we know pregnancy is one of the most cherished times in a woman’s life. When you find out you are pregnant or planning for a baby, the first thing that comes to mind is taking care of your health and of the little one growing inside of you. So let’s prioritise our health by adopting a balanced diet, and good habits. After all, a healthy and happy woman is a lifeline of family.
