There are lot of parents who have wrong notion that only marks/scores make children intelligent and smart. But there is always art which connects the child and the environment in a different way. You might have noticed when children play with colours, it gives them tremendous chance to explore themselves in the outer world. It improves their creativity and imagination skills.
Art and motor skills
Children use brush, crayons, colour pencils to draw. Holding them in hand, not only improves their hand-eye coordination but it also provides grip to hold them in a right way. When toddlers start using crayons and scribbles, it polishes their motor development. These exercise will set them further to hold pencils/pen properly. In other words it develops their writing skills.
Art and Emotions
Colours are always special to people. It brings positive mood. When children are hyperactive and inattentive just handover colours and tell them to scribble whatever they want. You will notice a calmness in them. This is the power of art. It has the ability to elevate positive emotions such as happiness, excitement and joy.
Art and life skills
Art may seem like fun and games — and it is! — but you may not realise that your child is actually learning a lot through exploring the arts and doing art activities. Your children will gain useful life skills through art, so encourage them to get creative, and you will quickly see that your children are picking up these skills.
Communication skills
Children express their views in their art. They interact with the environment, which depicted in their art. For instance while they draw they might recall their past/future experience, showcase the art or try to narrate a story through art. Art goes beyond verbal language to communicate feelings that might not otherwise be expressed.
Problem solving skills
When children explore with colours, they also test their abilities and possible challenges. For instance they visualise the colour combination and checking which colour contrast suits better. It allows them to make their own assessments.
Art is not only about painting, and crafts. It also help children in their overall development. So when children engage themselves, make sure that they are learning everything, that a classroom would not teach them.
