Navaratri is a Hindu festival during which a devotee can fast for nine days. For religious or personal reasons, many pregnant women desire to fast. Well, women should avoid fasting during pregnancy, as the foetus requires all of the nutrients for optimal growth and development.

Instead, a pregnant woman can go for consumption of a variety of foods, which is allowed during fast at regular intervals. However, all pregnant women should remember that a baby’s nutrition is dependent on the mother, therefore doctors advise them not go hungry for long periods of time.

According to experts, fasting should be avoided by pregnant women with conditions such as diabetes, anaemia, or high blood pressure since it can lead to a variety of complications.

Although fasting is a very traditional and customary ritual, and most people fast for spiritual purification, there is no doubt that keeping your eating habits in control can be beneficial for the body, acting as a type of detox and keeping you healthy.

There are many non-pregnant women who want to shed extra calories. Fasting will be the perfect time to start their fitness journey. To lose weight and stay healthy, the purpose should be to source the right kind of carbs, which release energy slowly and helps you in the long run.

So, while on a fast diet, it’s vital to eat the right food to avoid being lacking in vital nutrients, which can lead to health concerns including weakness, heart difficulties, skin problems, and improper bone growth, among other things.

Dieticians suggest combining high-carb vegetables such as potatoes and sabudana with fibrous vegetables such as spinach, cabbage, tomatoes, capsicum, bottle guard, and so on. Dry fruits such as almonds, raisins, walnuts, ans roasted peanuts can also work. Seasonal fruits and vegetables should be consumed in large quantities, which will help you keep your blood glucose levels stable and avoid feeling low. Drinking plenty of water and sugar-free drinks like coconut water, lemon water, and buttermilk will help in maintaining hydration as well.

Hope Navaratri, a festival that celebrates women power may increase the sensitisation about women empowerment and female leadership, prioritising health and fitness among us.
