‘Not understanding a subject sparked ambition to be teacher’

Dubai: The 34th episode of NewsKarnataka.com’s Namaste Teacher was held on Friday August 5 at 6.30 pm IST.

The guest teacher for the evening was George Castelino. The special guests of the evening were his students, Revathi Vittal, Retired Bank Official, Retired from Canara Bank as Divisional Manager, Manoj Shetty Nakre , Employee, Pest Mortem India Private Limited and Pest Control and Fumigation Mumbai, Shankar Poojary Nakre, Teacher, Shree Mahalingeshwara Aided Higher Primary School, Nakre, Wilma Reshma Castelino, Teacher St. Sebastian Educational Institutions, Permannuru, Ullala, Sanjeev, SDA Karnataka Examination Authority, Malleshwaram Bengaluru.

The event host was Kiran Nirkan.

Through teacher-student interaction, the series strives to highlight teachers and their impact on students. The programme was premiered on NewsKarnataka.com’s Facebook and YouTube channels.

In the beginning of the show Kiran Nirkan introduced the guests and welcomed them.

George Castelino sharing the reason for his career inspiration stated, “My Maths teacher at school had shut me when I expressed about not understanding the class. It also led to my hatred towards the subject and resulted in me failing in Maths. It was that day, I decided to become a teacher,” he shared.

Revathi Vittal sharing her experience with George Castelino said, “The sketch of eyes and ears taught by sir is still in my mind that, today I teach it to my grand children’s too.”

Shankar Poojary Nakre shared, “Sir is a model teacher. The Science subject taught by sir became a light in my life and today, I too teach Science.”

Manoj Shetty Nakre expressed, “George master is the fusion of Discipline, Honesty and Simplicity and called him a role model for it. Manoj Shetty also shared on how teacher George Castelino motivated students towards goodness, and encouraged to get education even to the illiterates in the village.”

Wilma Reshma Castelino shared on the effective classes taken by George sir, his health tips given to students and a short session of current affairs discussions in the class room.”

Sanjeev expressed, “We had Sir’s class in the afternoon and it was the time when stomach is filled and sleep encroaches. Sir used to narrate us stories at this time and get our attention to what he was telling. Sanjeev said, George Castelino sir is a ‘Sandalwood’ of Nakre and the fragrance of it is eternal.

Teacher advised all the teachers to keep their religion, caste and faith outside the school building and work for the betterment of the nation.

Both teacher and students appreciated the initiative of NewsKarnataka and expressed gratitude.

Expressing the best wishes Kiran Nirkan signed off.
