The Health Minister of Portugal Marta Temido resigned on the death of a pregnant Indian woman. It reminded us of one such leader of our nation, Lalbahadur Shastri. Shastri was a Railway Minister between 1951-56 who resigned from his post for the railway accident and casualties caused by the effect of rainfall. This form of moral responsibility taken by the Minister continued even in the case of Nitish Kumar, Mamata Banerjee, and Suresh Prabhu.

Social responsibility, commitment, and conscious of moral rights and wrongs are certain qualities, a leader should possess and inculcate. Morality of a country is determined by our leader. As it is practically impossible for everyone to become a leader and administrator in the country, people chose leaders on their behalf to work for the society. In such a case, an elected leader is answerable to his/her voters on each action.

As the current trend in politics follows, the MP’s and MLAs are proving their affection towards power. Ignoring all the ethical aspects of waiving of the duty towards electors is a major issue. With new education system erupting in, students must be trained for practical political rule of a model state. To the generation growing along criticising politics, a model administrative system will influence their interest towards politics and social service. Questioning the elected and making them stand responsible for illicit action too is possible.

With this, not only ethical leaders but also responsible leaders are gifted to the republic of India. More leaders like Lalbahadur Shastri and Marta Temido are the current needs of the country, at the time of deteriorating politics.
