Mangaluru: Meghana Das, who started her career as a technical executive and went on to become a food delivery agent for online food delivery service Zomato, is now switching fields again and is stepping into politics. Newskarnataka.com had, a few months ago, published an article about her decision to become a food delivery agent and inspiring those who are unable to find a suitable job for their educational qualification. Now, Meghana will be one of the faces contesting in the upcoming Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) election from the Mannagudda ward.

Meghana filed her nomination on Thursday, October 31, as a Congress candidate and began her election campaign with a few of her supporters.

In a telephonic interview, she told newskarnataka.com that even though she did not have plans to join politics, she had an dream to serve people. “I never dreamed about joining any political party. My passion for social service drove me to join a political party. I had extended my help towards the flood victims and served them. After noticing my zeal for social service, a Congress worker invited me to join the party. As the Congress party chose me to contest from the Mannagudda ward, I have full confidence of winning the election,” she says.

To be able to conduct her campaign, Meghana has taken a breather from her food delivery job for a period of two weeks. “I am confident of winning the election and engaging myself in social service. If I succeed in my very first attempt, I will be with the people to resolve their issues. If I am defeated, I will return to my food delivery job, however, I won’t stop my social service,” she added.

Meghana is now out there handing out her contact information to the people of her ward and asking them to contact her at any time on any day. She has also promised them that she will always be available to respond to their grievances. She has assured of conducting a meeting once in 10 days in her ward, in order to take stock of the people’s grievances.

As a food delivery woman, she had sent out the message that if one doesn’t have a job, they should take up any available job, so long as it is legal. She has now applied this principle to politics as well. “I won’t step onto the wrong path in order to gain surplus income. I know how to do hard work and fetch positive results,” she says.
