Horse Mounted Police add Flavor to Majestic Jumbo Procession

Mysore Dasara is not mere the procession of jumbos where in a lead jumbo carries the diamond-studded throne, no doubt its also cultural extravaganza of Karnataka culture, tradition and customs that convey the rich cultural hierarchy of erstwhile rulers.  

If one observes the majestic jumbos procession on Dasara celebrations, it is clear for the one who views the entire celebration in wider angle.The jumbos, folk artistes, police brass band, horsemen form key aspects of Dasara Utsav.The horsemen of Karnataka horse mounted police with distinct uniform and manning their horses indeed add flavor to Dasara celebrations.

If you go to see, the horse mounted police wing of erstwhile Mysore rulers has its own history.Mysore rulers horse mounted body guards were entrusted the tasks of providing security to royal families.Each of royal horsemen had to undergo strenuous training to become ace horsemen, who used to provide back up security daily to royal families and also add flavor to annual Dasara Utsav by partaking in majestic procession. It is significant that the horsemen wing has been partaking in Dasara Utsav even now.

The horsemen wing of erstwhile Mysore rulers in the pre-Independence era was taken over by the state police post-Independence to become dynamic security force in democratic India. In the later development, it has been engaged in curbing mobs, traffic, patrol duty, etc, in maintaining law and order situation.The horse mounted police force of Mysore is engaged in daily duties besides add flavor to annual Dasara celebrations. It has earned laurels in both national and international horse races.

Its during erstwhile Mysore rulers, royal stud was constructed in the outskirts of palace at Lalit Mahal Road, which has unique welcome arch, with administrative office for horse mounted armed guards, store room for arms and accessories, and other facilities. The old complex still beckons the curious visitors to walk in.  When stepped in, one finds large sized mirrors placed in both sides to check the attire of horsemen and proceed when everything is in place. 

The horsemen indeed have strong bond with their horses and their backpack and are also disciplined in their uniform dresses that is of dark blue, with head gear of blue and golden color.The horsemen with this attire look great while mounted in their favorite horses.
