Every year, July 1 is celebrated as National Doctors’ Day by the Indian Medical Association (IMA). The day is observed to commemorate the birth and death anniversary of former Bengal’s Chief Minister Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy.

The day is dedicated to all doctors and healthcare workers who have risked their lives to serve the people. The COVID-19 pandemic has reminded us once again of the contributions and sacrifices made by the doctors and healthcare professionals throughout out the world.

National Doctor’s Day is observed to honour the role and responsibility of physicians in saving lives. The purpose of the day is to recognise their roles and responsibilities.

On this occasion Speaking to News Karnataka Dr. Animesh Jain said, “All the health care workers are doing selfless services at this point in time. People are not realising the importance of doctors and so many cases of violence have been reported against the doctor. This is high time that everyone should realise that doctors too are human beings. Every doctor will act in his patient’s best interest, without thinking of their families. Doctors are working continuously amid pandemic sacrificing their personal life and family life to ensure the safety of others.”

Similarly sharing his opinion Dr. Kelvin Peter Pais, Liaison Officer of Father Muller Charitable Institutions said, “In the fight against coronavirus, the brave medical army stands strong with thermometers, stethoscopes, and ventilators as their weapons. Not to forget, medical researchers are working day in and night out against all odds.”

During the Covid – 19 outbreak, doctors have been working round the clock, risking their lives in an attempt to save as many lives as possible. Rather than thinking about their personal safety and that of their families, they decided to serve the country. Even many doctors have even sacrificed their own lives in the line of duty. The sacrifice that they are making for the safety and welfare of humanity is priceless and deserves lifelong gratitude on our end. Kudos to their spirit and dedication that they continued to work untiringly in the hour of crisis.

Marking of Chartered Accountants’ Day

Similarly, on the same day, we are also celebrating Chartered Accountants’ Day to commemorate the findings of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) by the parliament of India in 1949. The parliament of India passed an act that established ICAI  on July 1, 1949. on this day, we honour the Chartered Accountant across the nation.

Speaking on this occasion CA Valerian Dalmaida, Mentor, Spearhead Media Group told News Karnataka that, “Chartered Accountancy not only deals with account debits and credits, but they also play a significant role in nation-building. CAs are the economic foundation, and by utilising their financial experience, the nation is guided in various financial and economic steps to improve the economy and promote industrial progress. Starting from budget forecasting, Tax planning, preparation of books of accounts, capital budgeting, financing or any other activity, the need of Chartered Accountants are in every field. Nowadays the CA are been experts in a particular field. They are custodians of finance and partners on the development of the nation.”

Similarly sharing his views with News Karnataka CA. Gautham Pai D., Chairman of SICASA Mangaluru said, ” Today we are celebrating our 73rd Chartered Accountants’ Day and it is a very happy occasion for all of us. 4 years back our Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of CA Day celebration reiterated the role played by the Chartered Accountants fraternity & also emphasised that the signature of a CA is much more powerful than that of the PM. Such is the esteem and respect with which the society at large looks at our elite profession for the unmatched service we have been rendering.

He further said, “CAs are rightly tagged as Partners in Nation Building, wherein the contribution in driving the progress of our economy is unparalleled. CAs ensure that every Act that is passed is mastered & the intention, as well as the purpose, is achieved. CAs have excelled in all domains and it is a matter of great pride to be a part of this sublime profession. I extend my greetings and wishes to all the members on this occasion of CA Day.”

Kannada Press Day Celebration

July 1 is also celebrated as Kannada press day. As we know on July 1, 1843, the fortnightly publication Mangalura Samachara using litho printing technology heralded a new era in the history of Kannada journalism. Though this publication survived for only two years, its contributions to journalism are remarkable. The Karnataka Media Academy celebrates July 1 as ‘Press Day’ to mark this historical day.

The primary goal of celebrating this day is to inform people about the critical role that newspaper and magazines play in raising public awareness about literature, culture and political rights.

Furthermore, the event serves as a reminder of the vital function that journalists play as interpreters and guides for the general public.

Amid pandemic, working journalists are also serving as Frontline Covid Warriors by risking their lives to cover the pandemic. The government of Karnataka as well the audience have lauded the great service of working journalists by providing seamless news feed, making people aware of issues relating to COVID-19 and said they are great support for our war against Covid.
