People’s delight Panambur Beach

The expanse of golden sand along the shore, huts to view the Arabian Sea, the joys of boating for adventurous youth…camel rides for children…scintillating scene of sunset.  Thousands of tourists from across the nation and overseas arrive to view the breathtaking sunset view.  The love-stricken youngsters share sweet nothings, all this at Mangalore city’s landmark Panambur beach, the favorite sport for young lovers.


If one asks where tourists spots in Dakshina Kannada district are; one would easily say Pamaboor beach that is not only favorite of locals but outsiders too, that lies in the coastal Karnataka that is known to be abode of temples and intelligent people.  The visitors from other districts and other states whenever they arrive in Mangalore usually visit Panamboor beach to enjoy the scenic beauty and golden sand.

The coastal district comprising Dakshina Kannada and Udupi  are blessed with nature’s bounty, rivers, water falls and long pristine shoreline.  It’s owing to this, Panamboor beach is crowed on weekends.  The city-folks arrive with their families amongst the tourists to enjoy outdoor.

Lovers flock:

The lovers in large numbers visit the beach almost daily, while their numbers galore during weekends.  It’s interesting to view lovers transpired into different world while viewing the distant sea.  The lovers holding hands moving in the break-water also adds flavor to beauty of beach.

Tasty seafood:

The beach has several stalls that sell authentic local sea foods, such as mackerel fry, pompret fry, crab curry in earthenware, shrimps dipped in rava .  etc that are tasty indeed which would make the tourists to come again.

Saftey at the Beach:

Thousands of tourists arrive at Panamboor beach during Saturdays and Sundays, while many are likely to venture into play in the sea and this pose threat to their lives. Hence the Beach Development Committee has appointed lifeguards for the saftey of the people.

Festivities arranged:

Panamboor beach is prominent in the world map for some key reasons, like the Beach Utsav and Kite Festival which are being held here every year and  has been witnessed by innumerable people.  The different competitions for the general public and country-boat competitions are also held.  The tourists across the nation and overseas arrive during Beach Utsav and Kite Festival every year.

How to reach here?

Those who want to visit Panamboor beach had to take a city bus or service from bus terminus at State Bank and alight at Punamboor junction, then take an auto rickshaw to arrive at the beach. One can engage tourist taxis at the park in Hampankatta.  New Mangalore Port is located in the vicinity, while one can visit this only after obtaining visitors pass.


Panamboor beach is an ideal spot for picnics that is why the students come here during holidays.  “I have visited the beach on several occasions and always feel the urge to come back to savor the beauty”, says Harinakshi Prakash, housewife, Kavoor, Mangalore.

“Whenever I come to Mangalore, I have made it a practice to visit Panamboor beach.  The stalls sell tasty sea food.  I enjoy boating.  The lifeguards indeed assure safety on beach,” says Taranat, student of MIT, Kundapur.

“Panamboor beach is my favorite spot that is why I visit very often.  I love to bathe in the sea. There have been many instances, wherein the unwary beachgoers were washed away in tidal waves.  The tourists are expected to be vigilant at all times”, says Girish, Malali, journalist, Mangalore.
