Mangaluru: Vasuda Rao, who recently secured the title of `Miss Photogenic` and emerged as the first runner-up in `Miss Mangaluru` beauty contest, has been in news for donating her hair to cancer patients. Though she had donated her hair 10 months ago, it has become a big news after she achieved success in Miss Mangaluru beauty contest.

Vasuda, daughter of Thilak Rao and Namratha Rao, a resident of Murudeshwar pursued her primary education at Anandashrama Convent here. Her father is a businessman in Murudeshwar and mother is a Bharatanatyam dance teacher. The 21-year-old Vasuda Rao is now pursuing her LLB graduation in SDM college in Mangaluru.

`Locks of Love`, was a campaign organised by the city-based saloon `Bliss Hair` in order to donate hair for the cancer patients. Vasuda noticed the poster of `Locks of Love` placed at the Forum Fizza Mall and donated her hair on December 30, 2017. Nearly 10 months after this, she participated in the Miss Mangaluru contest on October 7, 2018 and secured the title ‘Miss Photogenic’ and also emerged as the first runner-up in the `Miss Mangaluru` contest.

When contacted, Vasuda told Newskarnataka that she was very surprised why this has been in news although she had donated her hair 10 months ago. Vasuda thinks that there is no connection between donating hair and winning the title. “I am volunteering in several NGOs and am involved in social service as my hobby. It is not at all an achievement of mine”, she says.

Vasuda is a member of a group called `Team G2C` which feeds the destitute with that food that gets wasted in public and private programmes. Besides that, she also participates in the charity works of `Art of Living` and `Ramakrishna Ashram` of Mangaladevi. She is a good volleyball player also and had represented Karnataka Law University twice in South Zone volleyball tournament. Though she had received some opportunities in the modeling field, she is concentrating now on sports since she finds representing the college in sports a different experience. She feels she can enter modeling after her education also.

‘I want to serve in Indian army as a legal officer’
Vasuda says that if there is a good opportunity in the film field she would take a call. “However, my ultimate aim is to serve in the Indian Army as a legal officer. Though there is no specific reason for that, I like adventures in life and serving the nation is a noble profession”, she adds.
