New Delhi: The 137th Foundation Day of the grand old Congress party was observed on Wednesday December 28. It’s the first time a non-Gandhi leader and Party President Mallikarjun Kharge hoisted the flag on the Foundation Day programme at the Congress headquarters in New Delhi.
Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra was lauded by Kharge, who also accused the Central Government of dividing the nation and not bothering about the sufferings of the people.
Later in the day, Kharge will address a public gathering in Mumbai.
Indian National Congress was founded on December 28, 1885, in Mumbai in presence of over 72 delegates at the Das Tejpal Sanskrit College. The first General Secretary of the party was A. O. Hume and President was Vyomesh Chandra Banerjee. Ever since, the main programme is held at the National Headquarters in New Delhi, where its President hoists the party flag.
