Our country is under tremendous pressure with the Covid second wave hitting the nation at a faster pace than anticipated. With the number of cases on the rise, the government of many states are taking the crucial decision of putting the state under lockdown.
Although this step has proven to help with the situation, for many of those who earn daily wages, times have been very difficult. To come to the aid of people like these in Mangaluru, Dakshina Kannada District Women’s Congress President along with Mulky Block Youth Congress have started an initiative to distribute food kits.
Speaking to News Karnataka DK District Women’s Congress President Shalet Pinto said, “Amid this situation, we decided to give food kits because we saw people were finding it difficult to get these essentials. We distribute about 500 food kits across Mangaluru every day” she added.
“We were motivated to help the people around and reach as many as we can in a way which was possible for us. Almost we have a team of 10 women who voluntarily joined this noble initiative. We prepare nutritious food by ourselves to feed the needy since lockdown. We will provide the food continuously till the lockdown ends.” she added.
