People are once again confined to their homes as the country faces a rapid surge in Covid – 19 cases. In light of this, states have imposed strict lockdown in various places to bring down the spread of the virus. This has impacted the livelihood of many people adversely.
Volunteers, non-governmental organisations, and other firms are trying to assist the poor and the needy. As part of such activities, the S.K.G.I Co-operative Society has launched an initiative to distribute meals to the poor and destitute.
Speaking to NewsKarnataka K. Umesh Acharya, General Manager, CEO of S.K.G.I Co-operative Society said, “Realising the plight of poor and destitute we have decided to help the people in need. We provide 300 meals a day. But after Indira Canteen started offering free food, and many other organisations, volunteers joined their hands in this regard, we limited distributing meals only on weekends to avoid wastage.
“We also provide meals to the daily wages workers, and labourers daily at their request everyday. We have been double-checking to see if their need is real. Our goal is to assist someone who does not have access to essentials and to ensure that our actions have a positive effect on their livelihood,” he added.
