A good education is a solid foundation for bright future. Education system in India for long now has been reduced to a rat race, where weightage given to Emotional Quotient is almost zilch. Every party in the education system including students stress only on getting high grades, and not on understanding the concept. For years children have been studying everything without knowing why that subject is taught, and how it will be helpful to them in future. It doesn’t focus on vocational activities, and critical thinking among others.

In this scenario, New Education Policy was approved on July 29, 2020 by the Union Cabinet. The new education system aims to implement transformational reforms in the school and higher education systems. This policy ensures all the higher institution will be governed by a single regulator. Students have the choice to select the subjects they want to study. As of now the choices are given after 10th board examinations.

With the new policy, the students will be able to focus on the subjects they are interested in. Interest is the key for successful learning. Further, by studying in mother tongue it will become easier for the students, though there are disadvantages too as they won’t be able to speak English fluently. But it will also help children interact with the teachers more freely.

Another part of the policy talks about bag free days were students aren’t needed to bring their bag and will be exposed to vocation of their choice for 10 days in a year.

5+3+3+4 division of education helps prepare the children in all level. This system is also said to decrease the amount of dropouts. It also focuses on personality development, teach responsibility, and moral science, prepare them to become better citizens, and inculcate a spirit of nationalism and develop a reading habit, all in all redefine the way we educate our children. With the all the higher institutions to have same kind of exams, it will be easy for the students. Also M.Phil is proposed to be terminated.

As of now there are many pros and cons to the implementation of this policy. But Karnataka Government has decided to undertake the NEP and implement the same in its State within 10 years. This policy, we hope will bring l in good days for the students and also it is important for India to have better education system as good education will not only ensure success of the youth but also of the country.
