Spike in heart attacks among Hassan youth sparks urgent health push
A sharp surge in heart attack cases among young adults in Hassan district has raised alarm, with 507 cases and 190 fatalities recorded over the past two years.
Efforts are underway to organise health screening camps at gram panchayat levels, especially targeting underdeveloped areas. These camps, depending on government funding, are aimed at early detection and prevention.
Member of Parliament Shreyas Patel, addressing the issue in a high-level meeting with district health officials, cardiologists, and HIMS doctors from all eight taluks, stressed the gravity of the situation and called for swift intervention.
As public concern grows over possible links between heart attacks and Covid-19 vaccines, the MP clarified that vaccines were given over two years ago and no confirmed correlation has been found. He urged the public not to spread panic or misinformation.
To improve early diagnosis, doctors have been told to initiate specialised training for medical technicians. ECG testing must be made available without delay for patients showing symptoms in rural health centres.
Funds from the AVRK scheme will be allocated to equip taluk hospitals with essential heart monitoring tools.
An inter-departmental awareness drive will be launched in collaboration with the education sector to spread knowledge on heart health. MP Patel encouraged citizens to focus on wellness—embracing yoga, balanced diets, mental well-being, and routine health checkups.
Dr Rajanna and Dr Sunil from HIMS also attended the review meeting and shared expert insights into preventive strategies.
