New Delhi: Young Indian batter Abhishek Sharma has added a remarkable milestone to his flourishing career by becoming the first cricketer from India to smash 100 sixes in T20 cricket within a single calendar year. The Punjab opener, who has been in phenomenal form throughout 2025, reached the landmark during the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), further solidifying his status as one of the most explosive batters in India’s domestic circuit.

Abhishek’s record-breaking year in T20 cricket

Across T20s this year, Abhishek has been virtually unstoppable. With 1,499 runs at an impressive average of 42.82 and a towering strike rate of 204.22, he has already hammered three centuries and nine fifties. His highest score of 148 also came in the ongoing SMAT, where he has dominated opposition bowling attacks with ease.

During Punjab’s latest match in the tournament, Abhishek continued his superb run with a blistering 62 off 34 balls, hitting eight fours and three sixes. His knock, which came at a strike rate of 182.35, helped Punjab set a strong platform for a massive total.

Stellar run in SMAT 2025

In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy alone, Abhishek has amassed 304 runs so far at an average of 50.66 and an extraordinary strike rate of nearly 250. With one century and two fifties, he currently stands as the second-highest run-getter in the tournament.

Punjab’s explosive batting performance against Services once again highlighted the team’s depth. A 106-run opening stand between Prabhsimran Singh (50 off 28) and Abhishek gave them a flying start. Anmolpreet Singh contributed a quick 34 off 23 balls, while Naman Dhir stole the show in the middle overs with a fiery 54 off 22 balls, smashing six sixes in the process. Punjab finished with a formidable 233/6 in 20 overs.

For Services, Abhishek Tiwari and Vikas Gaur picked up two wickets each, but the bowling unit struggled to contain Punjab’s aggressive batting order.

Punjab’s position in Group C

Following their latest outing, Punjab currently stands fourth in Group C with three wins and two losses. With the team hitting form at the right time, Punjab’s chances of progressing further in the tournament remain strong.

A milestone that elevates Abhishek’s stature

Abhishek Sharma’s achievement of hitting 100 sixes in a calendar year stands out as a landmark not just for him but for Indian T20 cricket. As the sport continues to evolve with aggressive batting at its core, Abhishek has positioned himself as one of the most destructive and consistent hitters of the modern era.

With domestic and international teams alike keeping a close eye on his progress, the young left-hander’s meteoric rise is expected to continue through the season.
