Puducherry: Gujarat chased down 213 runs set by Haryana with two balls left in an exciting Group D encounter of the IndusInd Bank Nagesh Trophy National T20 Cricket for the Blind being played here at the Palmyra Cricket Ground, Puducherry. Uttarakhand beat hosts Puducherry in the other match by 7 runs to register their first victory of the tournament.

Put into bat after losing the toss, Haryana were in big trouble as they lost 3 wickets in the first nine balls of the innings, when the score was just 3. In the seventh over, Haryana were deep in trouble as they lost 5 wickets for just 51 runs. Deepak Malik who was watching his team’s innings crumbling held one end together and along with Rambir Singh steadied the innings together. Deepak reached his second consecutive century of the tournament and Haryana scored 212/5 in 20 overs with the help of an unbeaten 6th wicket partnership of 161 runs. Deepak remained unbeaten on 116 of 58 balls with the help of 21 boundaries and Rambir scored 56 of 40 balls. Hitesh Patel scalped two wickets while Ganesh Muhudkar and Ganesh Bhusara scalped a wicket each. Chasing a huge target, Gujarat openers Dinesh Rathava and Hitesh Patel showed some excellent display of batting. They played their shots and continued to score runs as Haryana bowlers found it difficult to stem the flow of runs. Both batters batted for 16 overs before Dinesh Rathava was dismissed for 94 runs of 57 balls with the help of 9 boundaries. He put in a partnership of 170 runs along with Hitesh, laying the foundation for a successful chase.

Haryana found a breakthrough after this dismissal and started to pick wickets at regular intervals. Haryana lost 4 wickets for 37 runs in 3 overs. Needing 6 runs of the last over, they lost one more wicket in the last wicket but the calm head of Naresh Tumda and Ashwin Kunvar took them home. Gujarat reached the target in 19.4 overs by losing 6 wickets. Ram Kumar took 2 wickets while Rambir Singh took 1 wicket for Haryana.

In the second match of the day, Uttarakhand were send in to bat by the hosts. They lost Afzal early but the other opener Gambheer Singh Chauhan and Deepak Rawat steadied the innings and put on a partnership of 100 runs for the second wicket. Gambheer scored 60 while Deepak scored 36 runs. Uttarakhand finished the innings on 174/6 in their 20 overs. Dhinagaran and Saravanan took a wicket each for the hosts. In reply, Puducherry started their chase cautiously to not lose wickets. This caused the increase in run rate and they started to lose wickets at regular intervals. They were 45/3 by the seventh over but a quick 4th wicket partnership of 60 runs in 6 overs by Veeramani and Thangaraj helped them to revive the innings. Thangaraj was the key to Puducherry as he anchored the innings till the end but could not take his team home as the hosts finished their innings on 167/6 in 20 overs. Thangaraj remained unbeaten on 64 and was the top scorer for Puducherry. Tushar Kumar took 2 wickets for Uttarakhand while Amandeep, Deepak Rawat and Afzal took a wicket each.
