Chennai/Puduchery/Ajmer:  Odisha openers created a record breaking partnership of 333 runs to lead Odisha to the highest team total in Nagesh Trophy to beat Telangana by 191 runs at Ajmer. Gujarat secured their third consecutive victory beating hosts Puducherry by 108 runs while defending champions Andhra Pradesh started their trophy defence with a comfortable 62 runs victory over Himachal Pradesh in the IndusInd Bank Nagesh Trophy National T20 Cricket for the Blind being played at different grounds of the cities.

In Puducherry’s Palymra Cricket Ground where the Group D matches are taking place, Gujarat comprehensively beat the hosts by 108 runs. Send into bat, Gujarat scored 235/6 in their 20 overs. Opener Ganesh Muhudkar scored 95 runs of 63 balls and Naresh Tumda scored 56 runs to help Gujarat reach a huge total. Murugavel scalped 2 wickets for Puducherry while V. Saravanan took a wicket. In reply, Puducherry could not gather any momentum as they lost wickets in regular intervals. They could only manage 127/8 in 20 overs. Sakthiganapathi top scored for the hosts with 29 runs. Ganesh Muhudkar took 2 wickets for Gujarat while Ganesh Bhusara and Ahir Milan took a wicket each. In the other match of the group, Haryana got the better of Madhya Pradesh by 8 wickets. Chasing a tricky target of 182 runs, Haryana made light work of the chase with the help of Rambir Singh’s brilliant century who scored an unbeaten 111 of 55 balls. Opener Bhupender Malik gave good support to Rambir with an unbeaten 37. They chased down the target in just 14.3 overs. Earlier batting first, Madhya Pradesh scored 181/6 in their 20 overs with the help of a fine half century (74 runs) by Rampal Uike and supported by Aravind Tumla (27) and Gokul Pardhi (22) but the total was not enough to contain the Haryana batters.

In the Group A matches at Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai, Kerala beat hosts Tamil Nadu by 24 runs and defending champions Andhra beat Himachal Pradesh by 62 runs to start the tournament with wins. In the first match, Kerala were send into bat by the hosts. Opener K. Abdul Munaz and wicket keeper bat Mohammed Farhan played a 159 run partnership for the third wicket which took Kerala to 191/4 in 20 overs. Abdul Munaz scored an unbeaten 98 runs while Farhan scored 73. Chasing a formidable target, Tamil Nadu opener Venkateshmunikaran anchored the innings and scored an unbeaten 99 runs but he fell short of partners, as the hosts eventually ended their innings on 167/7 in 20 overs. N.K Vishnu and Jineesh K.M took 2 wickets each while Sachin and Venugopal took a wicket each. In the other match of the group, defending champions Andhra Pradesh started the tournament with a victory over Himachal by 62 runs. Being send into bat, all Andhra batters started well but could not convert it into huge scores. They managed 214/8 in 20 overs with captain, T. Durga Rao top scored with 56 runs. A. Ravi (35) and R. Venkatesh (38) also contributed with the bat. All Andhra batters were runout in the innings. In reply, Himachal lost 3 quick wickets for 22 runs. B.R Kaushal and Vijay Kumar stitched together a partnership of 130 runs for the 4th wicket, but they could not score that at a good pace. Eventually Himachal innings winded up on 152/3 in their 20 overs. T. Durga Rao took a wicket for Andhra.

Group C matches at the Lawrence and Mayo Public School, Ajmer also started today with Delhi beating hosts Rajasthan by 13 runs in a tight affair while Odisha thrashed Telangana by 191 runs. In the first match, Rajasthan send Delhi to bat after winning the toss. Delhi lost wickets regularly and in the end they scraped through to score 152/8 in 20 overs aided by valuable knocks by Banu (31) and Ajay Kumar (29). Hanuman Ram Puniya, Ravi and Rohitash Meena took two wickets each for the hosts. In reply, Rajasthan started well with their top order batters scoring runs and taking the total to 76/3 in 10 overs. Rajasthan collapsed in the second half of the innings and lost their remaining wickets for just 63 runs. They were bowled out for 139 in 19.2 overs. Niraj Kumar Pandey took 3 wickets while Mukesh Kumar Rawat scalped 2 wickets. In the other match, Odisha thrashed Telangana by 191 runs. Batting first Odisha racked up a huge total of 333/1 in their 20 overs, helped by a record breaking opening wicket partnership by Sukhram Majhi and Lalprasad Soren. Sukhram scored a wonderful 160 of 63 balls with the help of 31 boundaries while Soren scored 136 of 61 balls with the help of 25 boundaries. Soren was dismissed in the last ball of the innings. Telangana, chasing a huge target never looked close to achieving the target. Their batters tried to play shots but perished with only Nikhil Bathula scoring a respectful score (49), Jafar Iqbal took 2 wickets for Odisha.
