Punjab starts with twin wins in the Nagesh Trophy National T20 Cricket for the Blind
Jabalpur (M.P): Punjab started the proceedings in Group E with double victories over Chattisgarh and Tripura in the IndusInd Bank Nagesh Trophy National T20 Cricket for the Blind being played here at the Ranital Sports Complex. Earlier in the day, Hon. Shri. Justice Ravi Vijayakumar Malimath was present for the toss of the match between Punjab and Tripura along with Dr Deepesh Mishra, Registrar, Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur, Mr E John David – General Secretary, Cricket Association for the Blind India(CABI) and the office bearers of Cricket Association for the Blind in Madhya Pradesh (CABMP)
Tripura won the toss and send Punjab to bat first. Openers Arshdeep Singh and Harpreet Singh started well and scored 41 for the first wicket. After the dismissal of Harpreet, Punjab lost 4 wickets quickly and were 5 wickets down for 104 after 10.5 overs. Arshdeep was the fifth wicket to be dismissed after scoring 42 runs. Mangal Singh and Prince Kumar joined together in the middle for the 6th wicket and put together a partnership of 110 runs pushing Punjab’s total beyond 200. Mangal Singh scored 45 before being dismissed in the final ball of the innings. Prince remained unbeaten on 44 runs. Incidentally, the biggest contribution in Punjab’s innings were the 55 extra runs given by the Tripura bowlers. Punjab finished their innings on 214/6 in their 20 overs. Sukanta Shankar, Biswajith Debnath, Lab Shil, Nishi Kanta Malakar, Tuelve Kumar took a wicket each for Tripura. Chasing a huge target, Tripura faltered from the start and lost wickets in a heap. Half of the team were back in the pavilion at the half way mark with just 50 runs on the board. Tripura were bowled out in 16.5 overs for just 98 runs giving Punjab a massive 116 runs victory. Only Biswajit Debnath and Rajendra Panuria could reach double figures for the batting side. Mandeep Panwar took 2 wickets while other bowlers chipped in with wickets for Punjab giving them a dominating victory.
In the match played on Saturday, Punjab beat Chattisgarh by 72 runs at Ranital Sports Complex. Opting to bat first, Punjab openers Arshdeep Singh and Mangal Singh stitched together a 121 run partnership to give a solid foundation for Punjab to post a high score. Punjab eventually scored 246/6 in 20 overs. Arshdeep scored 84 runs while Mangal scored 35. Harpreet Singh scored 24. Rupesh Kumar sclaped two wickets for Chattisgarh while Dushyant Kumar, Murtaja and Ashish Jangde took a wicket each. In reply, Chattisgarh top order batters got good starts but were not able to convert that into match winning innings. Only Dushyant Kumar could play a long innings by scoring an unbeaten 56 runs. Chattisgarh lost wickets around Dushyant and eventually ended their innings on 174/8 in 20 overs. Amandeep Singh (B2) took 2 wickets, Nitin Kumar and Amandeep Singh (B1) took a wicket each for Punjab.
