Hubli Tigers prove too good for Mangalore United

Mysuru: Opening batsman Mohammad Taha’s unbeaten 56 runs from a mere 43 balls enabled the Hubli Tigers to register a comfortable nine wicket win over Mangalore United in the eliminator, entering the Qualifier II in the Vijaya Karnataka fourth edition Karnataka Premier League cricket tournament held at SDNR Wadiyar ground here on Friday.

Hubli Tigers displayed a good all round show to make it to the qualifier II. After electing to bat, Mangalore United batsmen tried hard but apparently not to any luck as they weren’t able to a pose good score on the board. Apart from the middle order batsman Akshay Ballal, who top scored with 23 runs, none of the top order batsmen were able to make it, on the given day, resulting in Mangalore United getting all out for a meagre 101 runs in 20 overs.

Hubli bowlers led by leg spinner Dikshanshu Negi bowled well to take three wickets conceding just 13 runs in his three over spell. Other bowlers too performed well to restrict their opponents for a modest score.

In reply, opening batsmen KB Pawan and Mohammad Taha who are have been giving a good start, consistently for their team, continued their fine form by adding 71 runs for the first wicket before Pawan got run out in the 11th over before scoring 27 runs. Later, Mohammad Taha who is having fine run in the tournament continued his good form. He, along with number three batsman Nithin Bille, completed the formalities by adding an unbeaten 31 runs for the second wicket.

Taha’s innings of an unbeaten 56 which came in with just 43 balls studded with eight sparkling boundaries and a six, while Nithin Bille was unbeaten on 16 runs. The Tigers will take on the losers of Qualifier I on Saturday evening.
