Visakhapatnam: India rode on a superb bowling performance to beat England by 246 runs in the second cricket Test at the ACA-VDCA Stadium here on Monday.
Chasing 405, England lost wickets at frequent intervals on the fifth and final day to end their second innings at 158. England skipper Alistair Cook top scored for his team with 54 runs. Jonny Bairstow remained unbeaten on 34.
Rookie off-spinner Jayant Yadav enjoyed a memorable Test debut with figures of 3-30 while star off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also bagged three wickets. Fast bowler Mohammed Shami and left-arm pacer Ravindra Jadeja claimed two wickets each.
India needed only three overs after Lunch to wrap up the England second innings for 158 and that gave them a 246-run victory in the second Test. With that, India now lead the five-match series 1-0.
India needed eight wickets on day five but got the first five in the first session of the day. Shami bowled exceptionally well with the new ball to get the wickets of Joe Root and Adil Rashid. But the start was provided by the spinner R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja who dismissed Ben Duckett and Moeen Ali respectively.
Debutant Jayant Yadav also bowled brilliantly to knock over Ben Stokes’ off-stump. Later he picked two in two to get rid of Stuart Broad and James Anderson that handed India the win.
Both teams will travel to Mohali for the third Test which begins November 26.
