There are a few more weeks until the new NHL season, 2020-21, which this time will have a different schedule. The start has been postponed until January 1st, instead of usually in October. While there is still time for the teams to prepare for the new season, the fans and the gamblers alike are looking at who are the favorites at winning the 2020/2021 championship – and not only.

You can check which teams are the favorites, at Unibet, an online agency that prepared the betting offer for the next season in NHL. There are attractive NJ Sports Betting promotions every week for the players to choose from. For example, the favorites of the bookers are Colorado Avalanche, with +750 odds, followed by the Vegas Golden Knights (+800), and Tampa Bay Lightning (+900). Following are the Boston Bruins (+1400), the Philadelphia Flyers (+1500), and the Toronto Maple Leafs (+1600). Last season, Tampa Bay won the Stanley Cup, 4-2 against the Dallas Stars.

There are some interesting and popular questions the fans are thinking of – for example, which are the best players at this moment.

Here are the three most popular questions about the 2020-21 NHL season:

  1. Who is the best NHL player in 2020?
According to the most recent NHL fantasy hockey top 100 players, the best player in the league before the start of the season is considered to be the Colorado Avalanche centre, Nathan MacKinnon.  He is also the favorite at winning the Hart Memorial Trophy this season, with +400 odds at Unibet. Second is the Edmonton Oilers’ centre, Connor McDavid, with +450. Back to MacKinnon, he is the alternate captain of the team and is regarded as one of the best players in the world. At the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, he was selected first overall by the Avalanche. Aged 25, he was the finalist of the Hart Memorial Trophy for the 2017-18 and 2019-20 seasons. MacKinnon has more than 500 NHL games so far, with 190 goals and 305 assists. He also featured in the last four NHL All-Star games, and in 2018 won the Wayne Gretzky Award for the MVP.
  2. Who is the highest-paid player?
When it comes to the highest-paid player in the NHL, that would be Connor McDavid, the second-best player at this moment. According to Forbes, the Ontario-born center has total earnings of $18.5 million per year, out of which $14 million represents the salary plus bonus. His endorsements mean another $4.5 million per year. In 2017, he signed an eight-year $100-million contract. McDavid won the Hart Memorial Trophy in 2017 when he was only 20 years old. Currently, at almost 24 years old, he is the captain of the Oilers, and also one of the best players in the world. At the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, he was selected first overall by the Oilers. And what a choice was for the Edmonton team that was! The fans saw him featuring in the past four NHL All-Star Games.
  3. What is the average NHL salary?
The collective bargain agreement (CBA) states that the salary cap remains at $81.5 million for the next season.  At the moment, the average NHL salary for a player is around $3 million per year. That means a range from $700.000 to $12.5 million, the salary of Connor McDavid. According to the statistics, Minnesota Wild has the highest average annual salary, of $3.32 million, followed by Pittsburgh Penguins, with $3.28 million. The lowest average salary is at the Toronto Maple Leaf, $1.54 million, the only team with less than $2 million annual average salary.
