Dubai: The FIDE World Chess Championship between GM Magnus Carlsen and GM Ian Nepomniachtchi, winner of the FIDE Candidates Tournament is coming on November 24-December 16, 2021 alongside the Dubai World Expo. Chess.com will be an official broadcast partner. After the event was postponed last year, the new dates for the match were announced in Jan 2021 by FIDE on its website.
The world championship is being played over 14 classical games for a 2 million euros prize fund, with 60 per cent going to the winner and 40 per cent to the runner-up. It was originally scheduled to start December 20, 2020, but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It will take place at the state-of-the-art Dubai Exhibition Centre, The World Expo was also postponed due to the pandemic and is on now from October 1, 2021, until March 31, 2022.
The world championship includes a series of side events in Dubai, including exhibition matches and appearances by former champions and celebrity fans.
