Mangaluru: SBA Badminton Academy’s Chris Anjan Baptist and Sumith Raghavendra Agara has created a record by being the first team from Mangaluru to be the runners-up at the Yonex Sunrise Karnataka State Junior Under-15 doubles State Championship held at PET Indoor Stadium and MV Indoor Stadium, Mandya from November 7 to 11.

Speaking to NewsKarnataka, Chris Anjan Baptist said that, “I am extremely happy and a little sad at the same time. We just missed out on the first position. We were defeated in the third set in the finals. It was quite difficult. We were up against a lot of talented and skilled players. Sumith is my support and best partner.”

He further mentioned that he enjoys training at SBA. “I was trained under Vivek sir, Vishal sir, Ganesh Kudwa sir and Riyaz sir. In the beginning Goutham sir, the president of Torpedoes Sports Club helped us and motivated us a lot. I am presently being guided by Shreyas sir. My parents and sister also help me to reach my goals by guiding and motivating me.”

Chris also said that, “This tournament has put a great responsibility on our shoulders. We are in under 15 category. We have to go even further than this.”

A. S. Raghavendra, father of Sumith Raghavendra Agara said, “We are really proud and happy about our son’s achievement. Sumith was always passionate about playing badminton. He has been working harder. Chris and Sumith have benefitted from SBA training sessions in preparation for the State Championship, and Chris has been an excellent partner. We thank everyone who has been a great support for both of them.”

After winning the State Championship, Sumith has won again in U15 doubles. He was also semi- finalists in mixed double badminton tournament which was held in MV Indoor Stadium. “We will continue to motivate and support our son in the upcoming championships,” said Raghavendra.
