Mangaluru: Shashank K. Rai from Mangaluru has been selected for India’s senior men’s basketball team for the upcoming SABA Men Championship 2021. On Monday November 8, the Basketball Federation of India issued a statement in this regard.

Jayashankar Rai, father of Shashank said, “We are feeling really excited and happy for our son’s achievement. He has been working extremely hard for several years. He had been practising for at least 3 to 4 hours per day.”

He further said that Shashank is now practising in Bengaluru basketball camp for the next championship. “Shashank is equally thrilled and in fact he has been looking into this kind of recognition all along. He had been working to get selection into the team. Whatever vision or dream he had before has now become a reality. We thank Naveen Shetty Chief Patron and President of Mangaluru Basketball Club and Basketball Coach Adithya Mahale MCB for their support and encouragement,” said Jayashankar.

The team met with Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot on Monday November 8.

The South Asia Basketball Association (SABA), a sub-zone of FIBA Asia, will host the tournament from November 15 to 20 in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Amjyot Singh, a former G Leaguer, and two NBA Academy India alumni make up India’s 12-man roster.
