Royal Challengers Bangalore –The team to reckon with

IPL has always been an exciting, fun-filled, and popular cricket tournament since its inception in 2008. Online cricket betting is like the cherry on the cake. Betting on IPL matches and its other markets is in full swing, as the current IPL 2020 has lots to offer to the punters. Although the tournament has eight teams under eight gigantic franchises, Royal Challengers Bangalore is one of the favorite betting teams. Despite the team’s failure to win a single IPL title in previous seasons, it has glamour and glitter in the form of world-class stalwarts that represent the franchise.

2008 – 2010 – The first three IPL seasons
The BCCI announced in September 2007, and the Indian Premier League, a competition of Twenty20 matches, came into existence. Mr. Vijay Mallya bought the Bangalore franchise for US$111.6 million, the highest bid next only to the Mumbai Indians. Rahul Dravid was the icon player for the side, with world-class players like Anil Kumble, Cameron White, Dale Steyn, Jacques Kallis, Mark Boucher, and Zaheer Khan on the roster. Second round auction added Misbah-ul-Haq, Ross Taylor, and Virat Kohli, the then captain of India under-19 World Cup champion team. The team could win only four matches, finishing at seventh place in the point table. Kevin Peterson, Robin Uthappa, and Manish Pandey joined the brigade in 2009, and RCB reached the finals, only to hand over the trophy to SRH. The team could qualify for semis in 2010 but could not make it to the finals.

2011 – 2016: the era of Trinity – Gayle-Virat Kohli-De Villiers
RCB was the punters favorite during these IPL seasons. The team got strengthened by the inclusion of the West Indian giant and the South African hero. Gayle rampaged bowlers from the word go and scored 608 runs from 12 games. RCB was a finalist for the consecutive second time, but history repeated itself, and Chennai Super Kings got the trophy. Gayle continued his onslaught in 2012 to win a purple cap, but RCB got fifth place in the team table. The same fate continued for the next two seasons. The team could play-offs only in 2015. Kohli’s supreme efforts and superlative form bagged him an orange cap with record 973 runs in 2016 and put his team in finals against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The punters were ecstatic, and RCB was a clear favorite. But it was not the day for the team and the RCB bettors as they missed the title by eight runs.

2017 – 2019 – The lean phase continues
RCB has the strongest team on paper but ‘underachievers” on the field. The team put its worst performance in 2017 with only three wins from 14 matches to take up the team table’s last slot. The IPL 2018 was not different. The first half of the season was a disappointment, but the latter half brought some wonders and wins, and punters put their bet on the team, only to find it in sixth place in the team table. The disappointment continued in 2019 as the team was at the rock bottom eighth place. Although the individual player’s performances delighted the bettors, the group as a whole failed to perform.

IPL 2020- the turning point?
RCB has never been a weak team. It is one of the strongest teams to place your bet on its markets. What is lacking is consistency, conviction, and luck. The franchise has made many changes in the team composition before the commencement of 2020 IPL. The team’s main strength is its top-order batting line-up. Even without Gayle, the line-up looks formidable with Kohli, De Villiers, Chris Morris, and Moeen Ali. Royal Challengers Bangalore’s consistent problem is inconsistent bowling. The team scores big totals but cannot defend it. With bowlers of Steyn, Morris, Richardson, and Udana’scaliber, the line-up appears good. The side also has quality spinners in Chahal and Moeen, but all fail to deliver. The team is at the fourth spot in the current season and is trying hard to retain its place in the top four.

IPL 2020 can be a turning point for RCB and can begin a new era for the franchise. Time will decide the team’s fate, but it will continue to remain a favorite among the punters and cricket fans as usual.
