Rohtak: Rio Olympic bronze medallist Sakshi Malik on Sunday got engaged to fellow wrestler boyfriend Satyawart Kadian at her residence here. Her engagement came as a surprise to everyone.
Kadian, who trains at his father’s akhada here, competes in the 97kg freestyle category and had bagged a bronze medal at the 2010 Youth Olympics and silver at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Satyawart, 22, is two year younger to Sakshi and trains at his father’s akhada in Rohtak. He won his first bronze medal at the 2010 Youth Olympics, and later went on to bag several awards for the same sport her fiance represents. The two were said to have fallen in love during wrestling tournaments.
Satyawart’s father said the engagement ceremony had been decided long ago, however, the wedding day was not yet confirmed. “They both are wrestlers so they have to chalk out dates out of their schedule of endless tournaments. So, we cannot say right now about the wedding,” Satyavan said.
Sakshi became a national hero overnight after she ended India’s medal drought at the Rio Olympics by clinching bronze in the women’s 58kg category.
