Survey of Unsanitary Toilets and Manual Scavengers in Kodagu District to Begin
Madikeri: A comprehensive survey of unsanitary toilets and manual scavengers in Kodagu district is set to commence on Friday, continuing until November 3. District Commissioner Venkat Raja has directed officials to conduct this survey systematically, in line with Supreme Court directives and government guidelines. This guidance was issued during a recent meeting at the office hall focused on the manual scavenger survey.
The survey will encompass municipal councils, town panchayats, and gram panchayats. The DC stressed the importance of providing accurate information within the designated timeframe. To facilitate this, the panchayat raj departments and the urban development cell have been assigned the task of gathering the necessary data within their respective jurisdictions.
According to Shekhar, the deputy director of the social welfare department, the survey aligns with the Supreme Court’s judgment on writ petition No. 324/2020. The collected data must be uploaded to the central government’s Namaste Portal.
In urban areas, health officers of urban local bodies will act as surveyors, with assistant engineers serving as inspection officers. Meanwhile, heads of town panchayats and municipalities will act as validators, while project directors of urban development cells will serve as district validators. In rural areas, gram panchayat development officers will conduct the surveys, with assistant directors of rural development and panchayat raj departments verifying the information, and taluk panchayat executive officers acting as validators.
