
Suspect Arrested in Rape and Murder of Uttarakhand Nurse
In a tragic case echoing the recent brutal crime in Kolkata, Uttarakhand police have arrested a suspect in connection with the rape and murder of a 33-year-old nurse in Rudrapur, Udham Singh Nagar district. The nurse, who was from Islamnagar, Gadarpur, and worked at a private hospital in Nainital, had been missing since July 30. Her body was found over a week later in an empty plot in Dibdiba, Uttar Pradesh, after her sister reported her missing on July 31.
The suspect, Dharmendra, a laborer from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. According to the investigation, Dharmendra lured the nurse into the bushes, raped her, strangled her, and then fled, stealing her jewellery and money. The breakthrough came after police reviewed CCTV footage showing the victim’s last known location in a tempo from Indra Chowk, Rudrapur. Tracing the nurse’s stolen mobile phone led authorities to Dharmendra, who confessed to the crime during interrogation.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the ongoing issue of violence against women. The nurse is survived by her 11-year-old daughter, who lived with her in Bilaspur Colony.
