Telangana confirms first Covid-19 case amid seasonal surge, experts call for calm
On Friday, public health officials in Hyderabad, Telangana, announced the detection of the state’s first Covid-19 positive case following a recent steady increase in infections across various Indian states and nations like Singapore and Thailand.
Dr. Ravinder Nayak, Telangana’s Director of Public Health, highlighted that such Covid cases during this time of year are to be expected. He reassured, “The current strain of Covid is much less severe compared to previous variants that led to serious illness and fatalities. It now resembles a common cold. There is no proof that infections currently seen are life-threatening. Following simple cough hygiene is adequate to limit transmission. People should stay composed and avoid panic.”
Senior health authorities and medical professionals noted that any decisions about setting aside special hospital beds or enhancing Covid testing and monitoring would be made only after evaluating the situation at a national level.
The rise in Covid cases in Telangana aligns with a broader trend seen in multiple regions and countries recently experiencing a seasonal uptick in infections. Experts emphasize that these new cases are largely mild and manageable, reflecting the virus’s evolution towards less virulent forms.
Meanwhile, health officials continue to monitor the situation closely, urging the public to practice basic preventive measures such as wearing masks when needed and maintaining respiratory etiquette to keep the spread under control.
