Two Dakshina Kannada Residents Approved for Indian Citizenship
M. Sudhakar Mallya, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices in the Mangaluru Division, recently announced that two individuals from Dakshina Kannada have received approval for Indian citizenship. This significant update was shared during an interaction organised by the Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Association at the Mangaluru Press Club on Wednesday.
Mallya explained that individuals who migrated from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan before 2014 are eligible for citizenship under the applicable laws. Applicants must submit their applications to the post office, which will then be reviewed and forwarded to the state committee through an online portal for further processing.
In conjunction with this announcement, Mallya mentioned that the Department of Posts is celebrating National Postal Week from October 9 to 15. The week features various events and services aimed at enhancing public engagement and awareness. Among the offerings are priority services for Aadhaar and PAN card applications, as well as initiatives focused on financial inclusion.
As part of the celebrations, the department has organised a national-level letter-writing competition themed “Joy of Writing; Importance of Letter in Digital Era.” Participants interested in showcasing their writing skills can submit entries, limited to 1,000 words, to the Senior Superintendent’s office by October 14.
Mallya also highlighted the availability of Aadhaar services and passport appointment services at 41 post offices in Mangaluru. He further emphasised the success of the “Dock Delivery Center” initiative, which aims to support small and medium enterprises in their international export efforts.
The approval of citizenship for the two residents marks an important step for individuals seeking to establish their roots in India. The ongoing National Postal Week activities not only promote postal services but also engage the community in meaningful discussions around writing and communication.
