Two Sisters Brutally Murdered in Bengaluru, Stepfather Suspected
A horrifying incident has emerged from Bengaluru’s Amruthahalli area, where two school-going sisters were brutally murdered in their own home on Saturday afternoon. The victims, identified as Srushti, 14, and Soni, 16, were discovered by their mother, Anitha, who returned home from work to find her daughters lying in a pool of blood with a blood-stained machete nearby. The prime suspect in this tragic case is the girls’ stepfather, Mohan, who has been missing since the incident.
Anitha arrived home around 5:30 pm to the horrifying scene. The half-ajar door of her house was a prelude to the nightmare that awaited her. Her desperate cries for help drew the attention of neighbours, who immediately alerted the police.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for the northeast, Sajeeth VJ, confirmed that a case of murder has been registered based on Anitha’s statement. “We have collected samples from the crime scene and recovered the murder weapon. Although the stepfather is the prime suspect, we are keeping all possibilities open,” DCP Sajeeth told DH.
The Hunt for the Suspect
Mohan, a delivery person for a grocery platform, has been untraceable since the incident. His phone has been switched off, leading investigators to believe that he may have fled the state. Authorities suspect that Mohan might have boarded a train to escape, possibly to his hometown in Uttarakhand or another state. An investigator involved in the case noted, “He may have boarded a train to a different state as the family is not from Karnataka. Even his phone is switched off.”
The family had been residing in Amruthahalli’s Dasarahalli area for the past two years. They lived on the second floor of a three-storey building, with the building owners residing on the first floor. Neighbours and friends of the family have been questioned, but no one reported observing any recent disputes that might have led to such a violent act.
Background of the Family
Anitha, originally from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, and Mohan, from Dehradun, Uttarakhand, have been living together for the last nine years following Anitha’s divorce from her first husband. The couple, along with the two girls, had settled into their current residence in Bengaluru two years ago.
Police suspect that Mohan may have attacked the girls in a fit of rage, although the exact motive remains unclear. The attack is believed to have occurred around 3:30 pm when the neighbourhood was relatively quiet. A resident on the first floor was reportedly asleep at the time and did not hear any commotion.
Investigation Continues
The police have filed an FIR under BNS Section 103 (murder) at the Amruthahalli police station. As the investigation continues, the priority remains locating and apprehending Mohan to uncover the motive behind this heinous crime. The police are also exploring other angles to ensure that no possibilities are overlooked in bringing justice for the young victims.
The tragic incident has left the community in shock, with neighbours and local residents mourning the untimely and brutal deaths of the two sisters. The focus now shifts to finding the suspect and ensuring that he is brought to justice.
