Udupi District and MIT Team Up to Develop Janani App for Pregnant Women
The Udupi district administration has partnered with the Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) to create the Janani App, designed to improve health monitoring for pregnant women. The app’s features and potential impact were recently presented to District Commissioner Vidya Kumari K and other officials.
According to Cdr (Dr) Anil Rana, director of MIT, the app aims to support pregnant women by providing timely healthcare guidance and reducing delays in care. The Janani App enables comprehensive health tracking and connects mothers with essential resources. Dr Shobha ME, Dr Raghavendra Holla, and a technical team led by Dr Roshan David Jathanna, Dr Sucharitha Shetty, and others are spearheading the project, which is expected to launch in 8-10 months.
Dr IP Gadad noted that the app will assist Asha workers in tracking pregnancies, flagging high-risk cases, and ensuring proper communication. Authorities are also addressing technical challenges, with hopes to expand the app’s reach beyond Udupi in the future.
