Destitute, migrant labourers to get free milk till April 14

Udupi: As much as 5,000 litres of milk will be distributed to the needy and orphans every day from today (April 3) till April 14 in the Udupi district.

Speaking on the inauguration of the programme, Dakshina Kannada Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd president Raviraj Hegde, on Friday, said that, as per the state government’s proposal, 5,000 litres of milk will be disbursed to the needy, orphans, daily wage workers and the poor that have already been identified in the district. This way, the excess stock of milk will be utilised and the farmers will also get support.

He added that the KMF will deliver the milk to the designated distribution points already identified by the district, who will then deliver the same to the beneficiaries of this programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu said that the distribution of free milk will help the homeless, the poor and the farmers of the district. The district administration has already taken steps to adequately distribute the free milk and there will be a daily review of the programme.

After the inauguration, free milk was distributed to the refugees who were at the Udupi Board School.

Udupi CMC Commissioner Anand Kalolikar, Dakshina Kannada Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd MD Dr. GV Hegde, Marketing Division Manager Dr Raviraj and others were present.
