In a remarkable wildlife rescue, a 32kg, 10-foot-long python severely injured by a grass-cutting blade was saved, treated, and safely returned to its natural habitat in Udupi. The incident occurred on November 16, when Akshay N. Shet, wildlife rescuer and founder of Uchuu Trust, received a call about the injured reptile.

Upon locating the python, Shet, with the assistance of the forest department, transported it to Samanvaya Veterinary Clinic for urgent care. The snake had multiple deep wounds, including 15cm-long lacerations with significant internal organ prolapse.

A dedicated veterinary team, comprising Dr. Anirudh, Dr. Atulya B, and supporting staff, performed a 70-minute surgical procedure under general anesthesia to repair the injuries. Post-surgery, the snake was administered painkillers, antibiotics, and underwent daily wound care for seven days under close observation.

After receiving a clean bill of health, the python was released back into the wild, marking a successful conclusion to the rescue. Akshay N. Shet emphasized the importance of immediate action and collaboration in saving such majestic creatures.

This case highlights the critical role of wildlife rescue and rehabilitation in preserving biodiversity.
