Udupi: The Udupi Police on Tuesday, arrested the receptionist of a lodge in connection with a prostitution racket in Kundapur.

A total of six persons have been arrested in connection with the case so far. The police had earlier arrested the owner of the Shalom Lodge at Shastri Circle Manjunath Shetty, for allegedly running the prostitution racket in association with a pimp named Santhosh Devadiga, who would find the clients.

Speaking to TOI, a police officer said that the lodge was raided by a team from the Kundapur Police Station led by police sub-inspector. A 15-year-old girl and other women were rescued from the lodge during the raid. The officer added that the minor was lured by Santhosh with the promise of marriage and was sexually abused by him. Her pictures were shared by him on WhatsApp to solicit customers.

After her rescue, the teenager was housed at a state-run facility for minors estranged from law and was later reunited with her mother, the police officer added.

Shetty, according to the officer, was aware of the illegal activities conducted by Santhosh but did not inform the police about the same. Despite the severity of the offence that he was charged with, Shetty managed to obtain bail and the district police is considering moving the jurisdictional court to cancel the same.
