Udupi: A government Covid-19 testing lab, set up in the Udupi district, was inaugurated by Muzarai minister Kota Srinivasa Poojary on Wednesday, July 8.
Speaking after inaugurating the lab, the minister said that initially, there was only one testing lab in the state, but with this lab, the number of Covid-19 test labs in the state has increased to 82.
The Minister, speaking further, said that the district first had to rely on the Mangaluru, Hassan and Shivamogga districts for testing. More than 1390 positive cases have been reported from the district, out of which 1100 have a history of travel to Maharashtra. Minister Kota said the lab was specially sanctioned by the Chief Minister as there was a need to start a testing lab for those coming to the district from outside the state and other countries.
He added that the Udupi district administration has been working in a very systematic manner regarding the coronavirus control and management of the district, and congratulated the local administration, district legislators and the district authorities.
Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar inaugurated the ambulance monitoring system, which has been designed to prevent delays in the hospitalization of Covid-19 patients in the district. GPS for all government ambulances under this project in the district has been introduced and it will now be possible to ascertain their location. District Deputy Commissioner G. Jagadeesh said that this scheme will be the first in the state to enable the people to find out the nearest ambulance and prevent a delay in the hospitalization of Covid patients.
Meanwhile, MLA Raghupati Bhat inaugurated a bed management system designed to provide information on the number of beds needed for corona patients’ care in the hospitals of the district. According to the plan, the COVID-19 patients in the district will have access to information on how many beds are vacant and what amenities are available at the nearest hospital.
Mattaru Ratnakara Hagde, President of the Coastal Development Authority, MLA Lalji R Mendan, CEO of District Panchayat Preity Gehlot, District Surgeon Dr. Madhusudan Nayak, DHO Dr. Sudhir Chandra Sooda, Covid-19 District Nodal Officer Dr Prashant Bhat, Health Department officials and others were present.
