Udupi: A message on Whatsapp claiming that drinking concoction of tea, turmeric and jaggery is the miraculous medicine for Coronavirus has gone viral.

What made the message all the more impactful for netizens was that the message claimed that the same as been told by the presiding diety of Kaup Sri Marigudi temple through an impersonator!

The message stated that the concotion should be consumed before sunset and many are believed to have followed the same.

However, the message later turned out to be a fake news leaving people disappointed.

The locals said that there is no custom of ‘impersonation’ or possession ritual happening the temple at all and hence there is no question of any ‘nudi’ (word from Goddess).

Meanwhile, the temple committee has decided to lodge a complaint in this regard.

Another post has gone viral on various social media platforms, which makes a similar claim about the tea being a cure for COVID-19.

The message claims that the Chinese doctor who first detected the deadly coronavirus had documented a few case files and proposed treatment for the disease.

The chemical compounds required to cure Covid-19 can be found in tea, the doctor had suggested, claims the post, which adds that even hospital staff in china has started serving tea to the patients three times a day.

Reports now state that there is no evidence that supports the claim of the social media users and hence the post is misleading.
