Udupi: A Skill development training program was inaugurated at Talipady weavers co-op society at Kinnigoli on 13/03/2020 by Kadike Trust in association with the Talipady weaver’s co-op society at Kinnigoli for new Udupi Saree weavers. NABARD is providing financial support for the refurbishment of 5 looms and a training program.
Two batches of 5 trainees each will be given training in the weaving of Udupi saree and other products for a period of 4 months. Nabard Karnataka for the first time in Dakshina Kannada is funding such a program. This will give a boost to the revival efforts of Udupi saree by Kadike Trust.
Mr. Ramesh S, D D M Nabard explained about the work of Nabard and praised the revival efforts of Kadike Trust and said after noticing the work done by Kadike trust. Nabard has come forward to join hands in this work understanding the situation of this exquisite art form which is facing extinction. He wished all success to the candidates and assured help to similar projects in the future.
Mr. Gerald Rego, Branch Manager, Corporation Bank, Kinnigoli explained the various schemes available to weavers societies. Ms. Mamatha Rai President Kadike Trust explained about the work of Kadike Trust and details about the training program.
Mr. Chandran, Master weaver Trainer from Trivandrum and Mr. Anand Shettigar President Talipady Weavers Society, Purushottam Adve and Chikkappa Shetty Trustees of Kadike Trust, Mr Madhava Shettigar M D Talipady weavers Society, Mr. Vishwanath Shettigar, Mr Bhavani Shankar, Mr.Rathnakara Shettigar, leaders of weavers Community, Senior weavers and Members of the Society were present.
