Malpe: After having saved Rs 30,000 out of her hard-earned money to repair her small hut, a fisherwoman decided to spend the money on the needy instead.
Sharada, a resident of the Vadabhandeshwara ward in Malpe is a fisherwoman and who ekes a living by selling fish at the Malpe fishing port. She had saved around Rs 30,000 to repair her dilapidated house, however, after witnessing the struggles of the needy, who have been hit hard by the lockdown, she decided to disburse rice to them.
So far, she has distributed a total of 700 kgs of rice to around 140 needy families. Each family has been given a 5-kg bag of rice.
“I helped in a small way. I have no money after distributing rice to poor families. However, I will help more people. if I earn more money in the coming days as well,” Sharada says.
It is common for associations and other donors to extending a helping hand only for publicity. However, Sharada is an exception. Even though she has been living in a hut and has a poor financial background, she has decided to help the poor not for publicity but for the sake of humanity.
