Udupi: People in the district have expressed their disappointment through social media against Deputy Commissioner (DC) G Jagadeesha for allegedly not wearing a mask while attending the Mehendi ceremony of a SP’s daughter on Friday April 23.
The public is questioning whether it is appropriate for a DC to act in this manner after ordering people to wear masks and maintain social distance. This is the second time the DC has faced public scrutiny for his behaviour as a top government official during pandemic. Earlier this week, public was outraged by DC’s recent action of asking girl to leave a bus, citing overcrowding as the reason, and not providing them with an alternative arrangement.
Later, DC explained that the event was a private and family gathering held at additional SP’s home rather than a public location. He stated that people are only required to wear masks in public buildings, not in their homes. He went on to say that the Mehendi was a private function, with only four families.
He also said that he was only there for less than 10 minutes and that he removed his mask to take photographs at the bride’s request.
